KZ Bergen-Belsen

Book of Commemoration

List of names and biographical data of former prisoners
of the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen

Shortly before Bergen-Belsen was liberated, the SS destroyed all registers of inmates. The SS thus destroyed the most important source of the names of those detained. The Memorial Book, published in 1995, therefore only contained the names and biographical data of some 25,000 inmates from an estimated total of 120,000 interned in Bergen-Belsen .

Intensive work on a new edition of the Memorial Book has followed since 1995. Archives have been researched all over the world and data from other memorial sites and institutions compared. This involved processing the many questionnaires returned by Bergen-Belsen's survivors and their relatives. We would like to thank all those who have contributed to the fulfilment of this task.

We were thus able to publish the revised edition of the Memorial Book in April, 2005 – 10 years after the first edition. Some 50,000 inmates of the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp are named in the book's two volumes. This German/English edition is available at the Bergen-Belsen Memorial Site for € 28.00 plus postage. Survivors of Bergen-Belsen get their item of the book free of charge.

This latest edition of the book is by no means complete. We still require your help; if you know the names and details of former inmates, please inform us via email or simply ask for our questionnaires.

If you have any questions concerning the book or the fate of your relatives, please do not hesitate to contact us; either per email or normal post.
